How do parents handle no sleep?

I really need an answer to this question! I am not a parent but for the last 2 weeks I've had only 1 night of full sleep due to pages from work and I am about to go nuts! I'd also like to know how the guys on night shift know when I've fallen asleep so thay can page me 20 minutes later and jar me awake so I can't go back to sleep for at least another hour....

Weekend in a Nutshell

I left work at noon on Friday and spent the rest of the day in downtown Portland with Jim. We spent a ton of time at Powell's Books and I ended up buying a book with knitting and crochet patterns for afghans. I am really going to miss Powell's when I move back to AZ!

Saturday Jim and I went to the Oregon coast for the day. We started out in Seaside at the outlets and then drove down the 101 stopping along the way at all the different antique shops. Jim ended up buying a really nice table from a shop in Wheeler. Based on the rest of the merchandise, I think it was the biggest sale they'd made in a while. The weather at the coast was pretty bad, very windy and rainy, but it meant that there weren't alot of other people around crowding into all the places we were going.

Sunday was a day for errands and preparing for the week. I tried a new recipe called "Italian Turkey Noodle Bake" which came out really good!

Spring has sprung in Oregon

I took this photo outside of my apartment today. Springtime weather is here with daytime temperatures hitting the 70's and everything is in bloom.

On the knitting front I am trying to decide what pattern to try next. I've had several false starts where the pattern was just not coming together correctly that I ended up frogging. I'll decide on something soon.

Chicken Cacciatore and No Pudge Brownies

I saw this recipe in the latest edition of Light 'n Tasty and it reminded me of dish my Dad used to make on cold Sunday afternoons. His version would take all afternoon to cook and make the house smell great! This version tastes only took 45 minutes to make, is low in calories, and tastes just like Dad used to make!

I saw this brownie mix at the grocery store and had to buy it. Not only does it promise no fat chocolate goodness but it has a really cool pig picture! The mix is combined with a 6oz vanilla yogurt and makes a very thick batter that is hard to spread in the pan but the results are yummy. I would definitely recommend this brand!

The sky is falling....

Saturday night I was lucky enough to witness a meteorite falling from the sky! According to the news in Portland the meteorite could be seen all along the Pacific coast but most likely hit in the Pacific ocean somewhere off the coast of Oregon. It looked alot like a firework falling from the sky as it turned from blue to green to gold. It was quite a site to see!

Walnut Chicken Stir Fry

Jim came over for dinner tonight and I made Walnut Chicken Stir fry from Light'n Tasty magazine. It was the first time I'd made this dish and next time I will definitely add more spices to the chicken marinade as Jim and I both found it a little bland but overall still yummy.

For dessert I made what was supposed to be mini banana bundt cakes but I overfilled the mini bundts and instead made muffins with a cool pattern on the base.

Adventures in Blocking, Baking, and Butterfinger Crisp

I was on call this weekend so I couldn't stray far but it gave me a chance to try blocking. A few of the potholders I've made over the last week weren't exactly square so I went to the Knitting Bee and got everything I needed to block. Just like the cabling it was much easier than I thought it would be.

When I was at the grocery store I saw the New Butterfinger Crisps minis on sale (and I had a coupon!) so I decided to buy them and make a batch of Magic Middles. I got the recipe from Stephanie a while back. The recipe describes them as "Peanut Butter Cookies with a surprise baked right in". The combination of peanut butter cookie and peanut butter crispy goodness can't be beat!

Diamonds Half Done

I finally taught myself to cable! For some reason I had an irrational fear of cabling. I guess I always thought it was hard to do but it turned out the be pretty easy! I'm making a series of potholders in all different stitches for a friend getting married at the end of May and at the same time I'm teaching myself a bunch of new knitting patterns.

The one I learned how to cable on is called 'Diamonds'

My 1st Blog Posting

I've finally gotten on the bandwagon and started a blog. I'm not sure if I will have time to post everyday be we'll see how it goes!
